We Want You To Have This: Frequently Asked Questions

Am I trans enough for this?

For my purposes, the umbrella of transness is very wide. If you aren't the gender you were assigned at birth, you count. Also, if you have a culturally specific gender identity, such as two-spirit, that falls outside of western gender norms, that counts too.

What if I'm closeted?

You can still get something.

How does the money work?

I raise money through sponsorships; they pay $35 for me to send you stuff valued at $60. This is, essentially, having people pay wholesale prices for jewelry and then giving it away for free.

Are you compensated for your labor?

Doing this makes me less money than regular resale but the sponsorships do still pay me enough for labor and materials to pay for my groceries, kiln electricity, etc. I couldn't do this full time, but I do okay. If doing this makes my margins too thin I will raise the sponsorship price a bit.

What do you mean by "can't afford"?

Just if you're in a position where you'd like something but you can't pay for it. Maybe you just don't make a lot of money or are between jobs. Maybe you have to save all your money for a surgery.

Are there limitations on what I can use the gift card for?

You can use the gift cards for anything on the site, but I would ask if you are purchasing a kobold hoard that you limit yourself to one (1) of those. If you'd rather have coasters or a trinket dish than jewelry that's fine.

How often can I get a gift?

Please only request something once every 3 years. We want to spread this out as much as we can. If you want to request a gift for yourself and one for someone else that's allowed but please be cool.

Do I need to tell you my story about why I can't afford a gift?

You don't need to tell me anything.

I read that you "don't need a thankfulness performance", what do you mean by that?

A lot of programs to give stuff to people who need it comes from a place of gifters wanting something from the giftees, whether that's some kind of emotional labor, religious conversion, or something else. I'm doing this for different reasons, and don't want people to feel pressured to perform any particular emotional reaction for me. I'm autistic myself and often have a hard time performing emotions to the satisfaction of people around me; I don't want to inflict that on anyone else.

I would like to pay full price for a gift card to be given out. Can I?

A lot of people have told me that my prices are too low, so I enabled tipping at checkout; you'll be given the option to pay more if you want to. You are under no obligation to use tips and should not feel bad if you can't or don't want to.

Why are sponsorships sold out?

I limit sponsorship availability so I don't accidentally get more than I can give out and so I can be sure my store has enough inventory variety that giftees can find something they'll like.

Can I put the glass in my mouth?

Please don't. Art glass is not the same kind of glass used for dishware. The colors come from metals and chemicals that are generally not good for humans. Wearing them is fine, putting them in your mouth, less so.
